Hi.

Ive setup DNN 4.0.2 on a 2003 srv with sql 2000. It works, but not entirely.
On the host machine i can browse the website and do all that, so thats fine. But when i try to acces the site from my own machine i get a "Page cannot be displayed" error.

Ive tried all sorts of things, and the issue is only when i acces DNN's files. If i create a test file in DNN's root  "hello.asxp" i can see it without any problems. Images under DNN's image folder can be displayed too.

I also noticed something odd: That when i call the machine in the browser like: http://hostname/dnn it changes the url  to http://localhost/dnn. I Dont know why.

This is from the IIS log, when i try the website from my own machine:

2006-01-11 14:07:51 172.16.1.61 GET /dnn - 80 - 172.16.1.11 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.0) 301 0 0
2006-01-11 14:08:26 172.16.1.61 GET /dnn/Default.aspx - 80 - 172.16.1.11 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.0) 302 0 0
2006-01-11 14:09:04 172.16.1.61 GET /dnn/default.aspx - 80 - 172.16.178.31 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.1;+SV1;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727) 302 0 0

Anyone got idea what is happening?

I am new to DNN so take my advice with caution but in your DNN database look at the PortalAlias table, the HTTPAlias holds the key to your problems I believe, they were for me.

I was using the File Mode in vs2005 for the website and when I ran the project it stored the HTTPAlias as local:####/DotNetNuke the #### being the port number visual studio's web server uses, only problem is that it chooses that number randomly? (I think) so I would get object reference errors all the time if the port number didn't match what was in the database. I took the port number our the the HTTPAlias field so it was just local/DotNetNuke and have been running it from IIS locally so now I don't have any problems, well not as many problems Instead of putting local, you probably want to use your computer name like ComputerName/DotNetNuke or when you release it to production whatever the url is set in IIS.

yup there was a problem in that table. By using firefox i could see the redirection go bad since the HTTPAlias contained: Localhost/dnn instead of server/dnn.

I was happy, so i changed it to the right value, but it didnt work.
I still get page cannot be shown error, so i guess there must be something else wrong too. And by the way, after i changed the HTTPAlias i cant acces it from the local server anymore, even if i change the value back to was it used to be?

thanks for your help so far :)

I got it working now.

The other issue was a NTFS issue, i changed Everyone's rights to full acces and replaced permissions in subs, that worked. But it sure aint secure now. But that can be debugged a bit easier, now that i know its the problem.

Many many thanks for the HTTPAlias help.

have a nice day.

Cool, I am sure you just tried giving the ComputerName/ASPNET modify permissions right? if just that doesn't work try just adding the ISUR and IWAM users instead of everyone. Who knows, I am hoping I don't use DNN, I rather write it myself ;)
