We're running a web site on DNN 3.2.2 and MSDE 2000. As the load on the site increased significantly we're currently running into performance problems which I'm pretty sure are related to the MSDE concurrency limitation. There are lots of MSDE warnings in the log like "Concurrent queries exceeded by 60 etc. Limited to 8" or something similar.

My question is if we'll get any performance advantage if we upgrade to SQL 2005 Express. By looking at the MS site it doesn't have the concurrency limitations.

Is anyone running DNN 3.x on SQL Express 2005 and what are the general impressions?

Thank you very much in advance,

Niki

I have asked thi s question before and some people say you shouldn't use the express version and some say it's no problem.

It is much less limited then the MSDE 2000 version so I'm convinced you should be able to get a better performance.

AFAIK there is no real guideline available.

Would you be prepared to share what load (hist) gives you performance issues with MSDE and on what hardware it's running?

I'm trying to collect some data on this subject.

We're running the site on a Pentium D 2.8Ghz, 2GB RAM, 2x200GB Seagate SATA mirror. Win 2K Server OS. ASP.NET 1.1

Currently we have 30K registered users and about 50-150 active (session) users.

We're getting the following Application log like every 5 minutes or something:

"This SQL Server has been optimized for 8 concurrent queries. This limit has been exceeded by 45 queries and performance may be adversely affected."
