Hi,

I would like some advice on how to move a single portal DNN 4.5.3 site from a local development environment to a hosted environment

Development environment runs VS2005, MS SQL express 2005 (file mode) - this is the portal I wish to transfer

The hosted setup also has a blank DNN 4.53 but has MS SQL 2005.

I was told all I had to do was shift the database to the hosted site, which I did by using the ms enterprise tools to create a .bak file and restore it to the host. I then updated the portal alias from localhost/dnn4 to the correct domain name.

When I browse the site, apart for a couple of images (which I assume are out of sync) everything comes up fine

Then I try to login as either host or admin with the passwords from my dev site and I get "login failed". I have tried to reset these with no success

Am I missing something here regarding authentication - please help. Been trying to sort this for hours.

Regards

Craig

Can you register a new user who can access the site? and Do you have access to your database via Management Studio or VS2005?

Can access database of site via MS Enterprise manager, haven't tried registering a new user but will try that.

I only really copied the database over before(as both local dev and hosted were pretty much identical on files anyway), so I did manage to login as host if I changed the hosted machineKey ValidationKey to match the local dev's in the web config on the hosted but that then broke all the modules from loading correctly

Thanks for any help you can advise

Regards

I would reccommend trying to move the complete installation if that's what you want to do. Trying to mix installations will create more problems than it's worth.
