The following error message appears when I test the database connection in a fresh local install.  The UserID and password are correct in the Web.config file.  Anyone know how to set the parameters somewhere to fix this problem?

Thanks

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 20
Number: 2
Message: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

You might want to post your connection string - the problem could be almost anything. I recently received this error when I put the wrong slash between server name and SQL instance: "Server/SQL" and should be "Server\SQL".

Here are the connection settings:

Any help?

<connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(local);Database=dnn_ron;uid=ronw;pwd=dnnronw;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=dnn_ron;uid=ronw;pwd=dnnronw;" />

Your strings seem be to be well-formed. The only thing I can suggest is that I personally have had a lot of problems with (local) inserted as the Server. I always use the "ServerName\SQLInstanceName" (ie. MikesComputer\SQL2000). Whenever I try to use (local) I get the same error as you:

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 20
Number: 2
Message: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. so possibly the change might help you as well.

Good luck,

Mike

Hi Mike:

Thanks for your advice.  I have tried by putting in the actual server name and that didn't work either.  But maybe that is because it wasn't a fresh install but rather one I had tried to re-do.  I will try again.

Ron
