i recently upgraded from 4.3.1 to 4.5.3 and things generally work, but now i can't access the site settings page.  i searched for the error message but found nothing.  can anyone help?  i'm quickly starting to dislike upgrading dnn from one version to the next.  i've had to re-create a few sites because of problems experienced after upgrades :(

the exception is as follows:

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: D:\<filepath>\Admin\Portal\SiteSettings.ascx.vb(292): error BC30451: Name 'optBannerAdvertising' is not declared. ---> System.Web.HttpCompileException: D:\<filepath>\Admin\Portal\SiteSettings.ascx.vb(292): error BC30451: Name 'optBannerAdvertising' is not declared. at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.CompileWebFile(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(String virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.InjectModule(Control objPane, ModuleInfo objModule, PortalSettings PortalSettings) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

What appears to have happened is that the SiteSettings.ascx.vb file that you have in your new installation is still the old one from version 4.3.1. In that file there was a control called "optBannerAdvertising" but in the new installations the control was renamed to "optBanners".

I'm not sure whether you can just replace the file with the one from a new installation as I don't know enough about the core code to know if that would work but I'd sure give it a try. Make sure you rename the original one first so it's available if you need it back.

If that doesn't work you can open the SiteSettings.ascx.vb file in a text editor and find and replace all "optBannerAdvertising" with "optBanners". I think there is only the one instance - also be sure to make a copy of the original first.

Good luck,

Mike

wow... thanks a lot!  that did the trick.  for whatever reason, the copy-over must have missed that directory for me.  i really appreciate you taking the time to reply.
