Well I decided to delete my site (My first DNN install ever was on Sunday 7/2/06) and install it on the root. Drumroll please...........................................................IT WORKED.
I had one hang up but I found
stephen_gryphon's post on page 10 about recopying your web.config file and SitesURL and it worked.
After you run it once and it fails, you go back and copy and paste the web_.config from the
site/config/backup1234 (remove the underscore) and place it in the root.
You do the same for the SitesURL found in the
site/config folder. It places in the values that it needs so it doesn't have to write those files. Brillant Stephen.
I even placed the extra modules that I wanted and now they are ready to go.
I have one question though, What does everyone do with the install folder when it is done?
I have read to delete it or to set virtual folder permissions or to rename it, then rename it back to install if you need it.
Any thoughts?
