I have a friend who wants me to set up DotNetNuke using his Hosting provider GoDaddy...

My problem here is all the DotNetNuke portals i've set up have been on servers supporting SQL 2000 or 2005, NOT MySQL which appears to be all that GoDaddy supports.

Anyone sucessfully using GoDaddy to support their DotNetNuke portal? If so, Which database are you using?
I'd like to know your thoughts about using GoDaddy to host DotNetNuke..

Thanks

There is a process that needs to be followed to get DNN working on GoDaddy. If all you are seeing is MySQL DB's, then you may be on a LINUX hosting plan, which DNN won't work on.

You need a ASP hosting plan from GoDaddy.

There are some posts in this forum, and other resources on the internet that explain how to set up DNN on godaddy.

You can install DNN on GoDaddy using MSSQL 2000 or 2005.  However, I strongly recommend that you do not do not do not do not DO NOT do it!!!!!!!!!  You will regret it.  I'm speaking from experience here.  We cancelled our GoDaddy hosting because they didn't support anything we needed to do, which involved a long list of simple normal everyday things a person would want to do with their DNN installation.  They also didn't support our payment gateway provider.  They didn't support a DNN backup module, and their database backup caused problems and lost data when we needed to restore the database.  The tech support is the worst I've experienced anywhere and often they don't know how to answer a simple question so don't even think of asking anything technical.  We cancelled and switched web hosts.  GoDaddy is great for registering a domain name, I highly recommend them for that, but that's where it stops.  Try 3essentials.com or webhost4life.com.  I use both for web hosting of two businesses and highly recommend both for functionality, ease of use, tech support, and being able to do pretty much everything you will need to with DNN.  Avoid Godaddy at all costs.  One thing that I discovered is that Godaddy is using outdated security protocols that Microsoft recommended web hosts change quite a few years ago.  Using outdated security protocols is a HUGE red flag and is the cause for most of the problems with running DNN on their hosting plans.   There are far better web hosts out there that are less expensive and at the same time offer more services and up-to-date security measures.  Definitely take your business elsewhere if you are considering Godaddy hosting.  You'll save yourself money and avoid the frustration and headaches of dealing with Godaddy.

GoDaddy supports both MS SQL as well as SQL Express.  Also MySQL and Access.  Make sure you're signed up for a Windows plan.
