I uploaded the DNN source for 04.08.0 to my web site.

After modifying the web.config, which I renamed from release.config I went ahead to install by entering the appropriate url into internet explorer.

The install window came on and i selected Auto Install.  Then it started.  everything was going well but an Error popped up when it had almost finished.  however it managed to complete but with 3 error.

Please help.  The error message referred me to a 04.08.00.log file.

I searched for the file and found one under /providers/sqldataprovider but the file was empty.

Below is the installation report:

Hey Vie,

What permissions does your database user have on the database? Also, did you remember to apply file system permissions to the application directory -- If so, which ones? (remember Network Service for IIS 6 & 7, ASP.NET Machine Account for IIS 5 and they need "modify" permission to the entire directory)

Take care,

Ian

Thank you very much Ian.  My db user has OWNER status on the database.

About applying file system permissions to the app dir.  Forgive me, but I am using a shared hosting service on the Internet..  Do you advice I should request my host to effect these permissions specially for my app dir?

What I am doing right now is to upload the DNN Install files to my web site folder instead of the Source files I used in the case above.  Thank you so far.  any further assistance will always be useful.

Keep in the nuke

Vie

Vie,

You're welcome! Yes, you would want to request a verification that the Network Service account (assuming its Windows Server 2003) has read/write permissions (generally "modify" permissions).

Also, you may want to try using the installation wizard when installing, and not the "auto" option - this may give you more explicit information about what is going wrong.

Let me know how it goes.

Take care,

Ian

I have uploaded the DNNInstall files to three separate Internet host accounts.

2 (www.imaginationTools.net and www.platinumsavingsandloans.com ) are with web4Africa. The other (www.e-democracyNow.org) is being hosted by discountASP.net.

Using http://www.imaginationtools.net/Install/InstallWizard.aspx or http://www.platinumsavingsandloans.com//Install/InstallWizard.aspx

This error pops up:

server error in '/' Application
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parser error
Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'DotNetNuke.Common.Global'.

Source Error:

Line 1: <%@ Application Inherits="DotNetNuke.Common.Global" Language="VB" %>

Source File: /global.asax Line: 1

>>>>>>>

Now when it is http://www.e-democracynow.org/Install/InstallWizard.aspx (that is the site on discountASP.net)

I dont get any error message but the status bar simply shows "Done" and the screen is blank.

Permit me to ask.

?? Which is best for installing DNN to a public hosting package (that windows hosting). Is it the DNNInstall, the DNNSource or by any means the DNNStarterkit?

thanks. this is quite long

..forgive me
