Every time I open a site for the first time Visual Web Dev pops a message asking if I want to upgrade the site to asp.net 3.5 ~Do this for all projects in the solution.

So far I have clicked "Go Pound Sand"

is it safe to go 3.5?

Why are you opening a DNN site in VWD?  You can also change the target to the 2.0 framework in VWD and stop this.

I usually create the site in VWD then upload FTP.

Moreover, I usually tweak in VWD for the style.

So I take it, that's a no on 3.5

Listen Knuckle Head...

I always wanted to say that .

Seriously now, are you talking about opening the source code version of DNN???  If that is the case, you have no need to deal with the Source version of DNN, just get the Install package, no need to compile or anything, it is ready to go out of the box (or Zip file).  Even if you need to develop custom modules with VWD you can do it with the Install package.  And by the way, the install package is whole DNN enchilada, it has no limitations and it is not lacking anything compared to the Source version, only the source code is missing.  This is something I have repeated many times and that is kind of misleading in the downloads page.

And by the way, if you do wish to develop custom modules you can use 3.5.

Hope this helps a little.

Ditto that.  Maybe with DNN 5 the source and starter kit can be hidden, accessible only through a secret knock.  That way beginners who just want to use DNN won't get so frustrated.
