Hi, I just upgraded my DNN 4.5.x installation to the latest 4.8.3 (using Upgrade package, unzipped it in the directory 'Website' as usual) and it fails with the following error, can anybody say what went wrong or if something is missing? Just had this problem yesterday.... I attempted an upgrade from 4.5.5 to 4.8.3 and hit this issue...   So I tried going from 4.5.5 to 4.6.2 - that worked, then 4.6.2 to 4.8.3 and that worked.    No sure what the root cause was, but it worked without issue..  So try going to that (or 4.6.0)  intermediate version first.

Good Luck.  /Paul

Did you rename the Release.config from the upgrade package to web.config and update the connection string, decryptionkey etc. before copy the upgrade package over existing DNN?

I upgraded a few sites from DNN 4.5.5 to 4.8.3 using the upgrade package and it went w/o any problem.

Now that you mention it -- no I did not.  Since I was only testing the upgrade, I will attempt it again updating the release.config as you mention.    thanks  /Paul.

I'm upgrading from 4.4.0 to 4.8.3 and now I have this issue.  Don't know what to do.

I copied the install files over, recreated web.config from the new release config, changing the connection strings, keys and autoinstall.  Then I ran the install and had an issue with Compression.  So I took the Compression out of the config.  Not sure this was the right thing to do.

So now I have this exact error and don'tknow what to do.  Do I need to restore and start all over?
