I got the same errot.

I installed 4.8.4 exactly the same way as 4.8.2.

Installation was completed.

But I got the same Error massages.

"Oblect reference not...."

Is this a bug or way out?

I *believe* I recall this error being caused by the DotNetNuke.config file missing the configuration/skinningdefaults element.  The file itself should be in your root directory.

Check to make sure it's there, and if it is, check to make sure that it contains the element I listed above.  If it's missing, there should be a copy in the Config subdirectory.

Hope this helps!

I am getting the following error each and everytime I try to install DNN 4.08.04:

Stack trace

   System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +47
   System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) +1436

I noticed that I DO NOT have a DotNetNuke.config file in my root directory. Also, I opened up the one in the Config subdirectory and it DOES NOT contain anything about skinningdefaults.

Exactly what do I need to do to fix this problem? How do I add a configuration/skinningdefaults element? And what data should this element contain or should it be empty?

Thanks much!

Jeffery Davis

/>

</skinningdefaults>

One can retreive a current dotnetnuke.config from the install or upgrade release.  It's in the config directory, but ultimately needs to be located in the root.  Since the install release does not have a copy there by default, I can only assume that a copy is placed there during installation.

By default, the file appears as follows (we'll see if this actually appears correctly.  Note the skinningDefaults at the bottom):

...

Edit: Yeah, figured that wouldn't work.  Get the file from the install package.  Here is the relevant skinningDefault element:

<skinningdefaults>
<skininfo folder="/DNN-Blue/" default="Horizontal Menu - Fixed Width.ascx" admindefault="Horizontal Menu - Fixed Width.ascx" />
<containerinfo folder="/DNN-Blue/" default="Image Header - Color Background.ascx" admindefault="Image Header - Color Background.ascx" />
</skinningdefaults>
