Interestingly, I did a page refresh which seeme do restart the script processing, and the error in the first line did not repeat, though it goes on and on, like this:

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Success
undefined...Success
undefined...Success
undefined...Success
undefined...Success
undefined...Success

Etc.

I ripped out the fresh install attempt and started again. This time it worked:

The only difference is that when I set permissions on the DNN directory, I forced the permissions to change down to the sub-folders and files. I had neglected to do that the first time. I don't know if this made "the" diffrence, but except for that, I followed exactly the same steps. Hope this helps.

And, just to be sure, I installed yet another fresh installation of DNN. It went perfectly. In fact, it took less than 10 minutes. If you're trying to duplicate this, try it without setting file permissions down through all the folders in the DNN directory for the NETWORK SERVICES role. That was my initial mistake, and I inadvertantly stumbled on to this same issue before I realized that I'd missed this critical (and simple) step. Maybe this will help someone who encounters the same issue.

I 'm having the same problem installing a DNN 4.9 Starter Version on a XP/SQL2005/IIS7 and Vista/SQL2005/IIS7, even in SQL Express Version in my Visual machine.  Install Database Script hangs forever.

Make sure the account you are running the app has full control of the dnn directory and child directories... ASPNET or NetworkService, replace perms on all child entries.  I had the problem, changed the perms, clicked refresh on the browser and it installed in seconds.
