I'm planning to install a legacy DNN on my Vista laptop (v. 4.3.4), so I can test the upgrade procedure to 4.9 before messing with my production site.  However, my Vista Home Premium laptop has .NET 3.0, only partially activated.  Can I do this with .NET 3.0, or do I have to download .NET 2.0 for the DNN site??  If this is a known issue I'd like to be able to learn from someone else's experience.

Thanks for the support.

Why not just install the 2.0 framework to be sure you have it working?  Get it from Winodws Updates.

A agree with Jeff,if in doubt just try to install .Net 2.0...but I am pretty sure .Net 2.0 is installed by default when you install Vista.  The easiest way to see this it to go into IIS7 and look at the properties of the web site.  If the site can be set to run under .Net 2.0 then it is installed.  You can also look in the Windows/Microsfot.Net directory and see what framework version are installed there as well.  .Net 3.0 and .Net 3.5 is worthless without .Net 2.0, since 3.0/3.5 are just addon libraries to  the framework.  .Net 2.0 is still required to be installed, since that is the .Net framework version the IIS sites would be set to run under.  There is not option to run a site under the .Net 3.0 or .Net 3.5 framework.

Thanks to both of you for the advice; I got distracted with other things and haven't had a chance to work with it yet, but it's still on my list :P  I'll give .Net 2.0 a try on Vista.

please be informed, that .Net 3.0 is .Net 2.0 with additional components (Workflow, Communication, ...), but the version number is just marketing. The ASP.Net version is in both cases 2.0 and DNN does not care for the additonal stuff (though a few 3rd party modules might do).
