I thought I had commented my configuration/connection strings properly, but I figure I was wrong.  The install page times out.  Here is what I have...

<connectionStrings>
        <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express
        <add
          name="SiteSqlServer"
          connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"
          providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />  -->
        <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005  -->
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

    </connectionStrings>
    <appSettings>
        <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
        <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>  -->
        <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"/>    -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=myDB;uid=myUID;pwd=myPswd;" />

Here are the steps I have performed, as instructed by my hosting provider...

a) Created MSSQL database on the control panel
b) Uncompress  DotNetNuke archive in to domain folder
c) Requested Windows Administrators grant Modify permissions on the domain folder for Network Service user
d) Set the connection string in web.config
e) Changed the web service from ASP.NET 1.1.4432 to 2.0.50727
f) Run from browser: http://domain.com/install/install.aspx

I am not sure where to start troubleshooting.  Please advise.

Thank you in advance,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

It appears from your connection strings that you might be using SQL Server Authentication -- is this correct?  Most deployments nowadays are using Windows Authentication, so I thought I'd clarify.  If you're not sure, it's probably the latter.

That said, you appear to be only specifying your SQL Server Authentication credentials in the second connection string (under appSettings).  You'll have to repeat them for the first entry as well (under connectionStrings).

Finally, if you by chance DO intend to be using Windows Authentication, you'll need to remove the uid and pwd attributes and add an "Integrated Security=true" qualifier to both connection strings.

Hope this helps!

Brandon

I'm not positive, but pretty sure I'm using SQL Server Authentication.  My host told me to use the following connection string, in both places...

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;" />

I did put the credentials in both connection strings, as follows...

    <connectionStrings>
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=myDatabase;uid=myUserID;pwd=myPassword;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

    </connectionStrings>
    <appSettings>
        <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=
myDatabase;uid=myUserID;pwd=myPassword;" />

However, the page still times out.  If I put the exact same string in both places (which changes the syntax of the top string) then I get an error page, but it still isn't working.  What am I missing?

Thanks again,
Andrew

Ah, never mind.  My host was able to help me out.

I had to replace the value="Server=(local) with the server URL.  My initial instructions to leave the (local) alone was incorrect.

The following string works fine.

add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=mssql402.myHost.net;Database=myDB;uid=myUID;pwd=myPSWD;"

Thank you still.  I'm sure I'll have more questions later :-)
