This is my fourth attempt at upgrading my 4.7 installation to 4.9.  Each time (I've tried both the upgrade and the install pacakge) I get this far in the install.  My timout in webconfig is set very high at this point.  I can't seem to upgrade!

depending on your database performance, you might need to execute some preparation:

  • remove log entries, buy executing the following commands from Host ::SQL:
    • truncate table {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}EventLog
    • truncate table {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SiteLog
    • truncate table {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}ScheduleHistory
  • clear search index (see here)
  • backup database
  • backup transaction log (with truncate)
  • shrink database files

Thanks for the tips.  I had already performed a db shrink (and log with truncate) but didn't think about the DNN logs.  I'll try it again tonight when it's quiet and see if this time is the charm.

Still no luck.  I truncated everything as instructed but still got the timeout error.  This is starting to become a concern for me.  How can I upgrade my portal?
Is there a manual workaround?

problem is you need to identify the cause of the timeout first...
