Hi,

I am trying to create a New DNN website.

- Using VS 2008 on XP.

- Using DNN "starter Kit"

- I changed the connection string to match my environment/ setting; other settings are all defaults

Problem:

Wehn I do Ctrl + F5  the InstallWizard page appears  but the logo image wouldn't Show and the "NExt" link appears but looks like not loaded properly.

Still I click Next and pass the permission check and DB settings look OK.

The DB scripts execution page looks like it is running the script but after waiting I realize that nothing happened (to the DB).

Instead of Ctrl+F5  I try to debug I get:

- The debuger stps at the following function in the InstallWizard.aspx

function reportAction(s)'txtFeedback').value += s;

Output: "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object expected"--------------------

Please help,

Thanks

if you are developing locally on Win XP pro, I suggest to use free XP Pro IIS Admin tool, which allows to use multiple web sites instead of virtual directories.

Thanks Alex,

- I copied the DNN files to my "wwwroot" and set up a website manualy by creating a virtual directory ...

And successfully went through the install.

It seems the problem was with using the VS 2008 built in web server.

For now I don't need ot do that but What if I wanted to develop a module, and keep on using IIS so there is a bug/problem here ?

------------

Another thing I tried is to use the "Publish Website" functionality of VS 2008,

The install didn't work, at some point after running the DB scripts I got an exception: "The directory '/MNWD/App_Code/HTML/' is not allowed because the application is precompiled."

The suggested solution is only needed during the installation process of DotNetNuke.
Once installation is complete you can switch back to the built in web server in VS 2008 to develop or bugfix your modules.

Good luck.
