Hi All,

I'm looking for some chat modules for DNN4.  Any thoughts?  We've been using Cute Chat, but that is apparently not currently available for DNN4.

We've been corresponding with Cute Soft and they've told us that the DNN4 version won't be out for "Months to Several Months."  I have a feeling we're not going to see a DNN4 version until late summer at the soonest, perhaps not until well into the fall.

This is a problem for us, as we have a great desire to move to DNN4 (we're using VS2005 and want to be able to develop DNN modules that take advantage of .NET 2.0).  We can't wait until August or October for Cute Chat to be DNN4 compatible.

So we're looking for alternatives.  Free would be nice, but we're willing to pay.  Here are the things we're looking for:
  • Some way to pass in the username.  In other words, we want to be able to specify that in the chat they appear as "FirstName LastName".  We don't want people to be able to pick any username willy-nilly.
  • Some facility for "scheduling" chats.  We could potentially do this ourselves but it would be nice to have a DNN4 chat module that has this facility built in.
  • We would like to be able to log chats fairly easily and programmatically.  So that when a chat is finished, we can have the chat transcript automatically inserted on a "chat logs" module.
  • In browser/no client.
This is a wishlist so if there's something that get us partway, we'll consider doing something to fill in the gaps.  Obviously if it's something we have to pay for, we're going to want it to do more.  If it's going to be free we may be more willing to put some effort into it ourselves.  Our preference would be to simply have a working product, though...

Any thoughts?  What are other people using for chatting in DNN?

I've got an off track suggestion here -

What about having the chat module on a 3.2.2 build - (although I've found some issues with the messenger app which need sorting out)

You could then use the Inventua PassThrough module which seamlessly connects users from one db to another including roles, user names etc.

Just a suggestion since the chat module really is the best one out there and it wouldn't stop your dnn development but allow you to take advantage and move foward with what you have now.

Another plus for this method is that you'd be running a chat site with it's own db as the logs can grow.

hey, there, I am also searching for a decent chat module for DNN, and accidently run into a online chat demo offered by www.123flashchat.com/demo.html. I heard from their sales that they offer free chat module for DNN,and I also download it and try it myself.
God, it is so fantastic! Beautiful interface, runs fast and neatly with different max-user chatrooms. But it upset me deeply that it charges $199 initially, but I myself is a personal user, so I can not afford it. But I  notice that you say you guys can pay for it, so I recommend it to u. Hope it helps you
