I am trying to do a new install of DNN 5.5 on WinXP Pro, .Net 2.x and SQL 2005.  But I get the error below.  Is there a setting or change in the Web.config I need to make or something?

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Where did you get DNN 5.5?

Please post the correct version. I installed DNN 5.0.0 w/o issues on WinXP a couple of times, without touching web.config file manually. I suggest to use custom mode in installer.

Oops, sorry about that...    DNN 5 was the version (had SmarterMail 5.5 on my brain I guess).  I havn't done an install of DNN since late 3.x or early 4 and back then you had to manually edit the web.config with SQL connection info, Table prefix and such.  But based on your reply (with out touching the web.config) I just learned I don't have to touch the web.config.  I looked or a readme.txt or install.txt in the root and in the install folder, but I had trouble finding such a thing.

Thank you so much for your help.

I am hosting DNN at WebHost4Life.  They currently only offer v4.9, but I found there is  not a 5.0 version.  So I am trying to install this version.  With out making any changes to web.config and I choose the custom mode from the Installer, but I get this exception error:

Any sugestions?

Well, I only tried once, and it was with FireFox 3.0.5.  So I tried with IE and it went past the first step just fine and completed the install.  Thanks again for your help and sorry to have bothered ya.
