I have a problem on Dotnetnuke.

After i install a dotnetnuke and i work, but i cant login as an admin or host. the error message is

"A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

 

i have try in two different computer, one on localhost and server computer

in localhost there is no problem and i cant login as host or admin, but in the server computer it always appear this error message

"A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

 

why please help me, Thank you.

Were you able to resolve this issue? I just installed version 4.x and find that I get the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error quite often but it seems to clear up on a refresh. I will continue digging through the forums to see if I can find an swner.

It could be that you removed a module that was depended on by another module. This error message came up when I did a search and there was no search result module on the page.

I too am getting this error quite often using DNN 4.0.  Intermittent, and usually clears up on a refresh or two.  It seems to be worse on my hosted site than on my localhost copy.  It affects different pages different times.  No custom modules have been installed at all.

Does anyone have a hint?  Is this a known bug with DNN 4 or is it something to do with my setup?

This is an FYI in case others have a similar problem. Check the DNN LogViewer, there is probably an exception that occurred causing a control to not load.
