I'm brand new to DNN and I'm trying to get it up and running. I ran the starter kit which installed the DNN project to my Visual Studio templates just fine. But, when I try to create a new DNN project, I get a Visual Studio error and the project is not created. It looks like VS is trying to load the MSBuild targets from the following directory:

C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\WebApplications

The problem is that I had installed Visual C# Express 2008, which I guess the DNN template thinks is my default IDE and thus is trying to look in the v9.0 folder. I uninstalled anything Visual Studio 2008 and still get the same error.

My temporary solution was to create a v9.0\WebApplications folder and place my current Microsoft.WebApplication.targets file in there. I don't want to do this though.

How can I change it so DNN looks to v8.0 to load the targets so I don't have to keep that dummy v9.0 directory?

Thanks!

Patrick

I'm having the same problem. I've got VS2005 installed. Never installed anything related to VS2008. I installed the Start Kit Package (04.09.02) a few days ago but I can't create a project. Biggs

If you want to get started with DotNetNuke, start with the Install version and forget Visual Studio. Get a copy of Mitchel Sellers' installation instructions from mitchelsellers.com.

You only need to use Visual Studio if you want to do module development. As long as you consider yourself "new" to DotNetNuke, stay away from coding. Learn how to use DotNetNuke, instaed.
