Let me preface this by saying windows servers baffle me, so forgive my ignorance.  I'm sure I'm missing something simple, I just don't know what.

It is a remote install on a Windows 2003 server.  What I have done:

  • created db and edited web.config
  • uploaded all files and set permissions
  • read and re-read installation guides
  • searched this forum as best I could for connectionStrings errors

After getting past the requirePermission="false" error the installation hangs with this:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Unrecognized configuration section 'connectionStrings'

Source Error:

Line 19: </sectionGroup>
Line 20: </configSections>
Line 21: <connectionStrings>
Line 22: <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express --> Line 23: <add

Source File: D:\WWWRoot\af1racing.com\www\test\dotnetnuke\web.config    Line: 21

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.2407; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.2407

I get the feeling that the server lacks a key feature if it can't even interpret <connectionStrings>.

Are the .NET and ASP.NET versions way outdated?  If so, how can I update them?

In the IIS console on your webserver you need to change the version your site is running under to the .NET 2.0 framework. If, when you look at the properties for the site, you don't see an ASP.NET tab then you need to upgrade to at least the 2.0 .NET Framework.

Thank you, sounds like an easy solution.

There's no IIS console that I can find, nor an ASP.NET tab, so l'll call the host tomorrow.
