Hi,

I'm pretty new at DNN and, if the truth be told, seem to struggle with it a bit. Just when I think that I've got something nailed, I have another hair pulling moment.

I've just installed DNN 5 and am now wanting to populate pages.

I've

  • Logged in as a host account
  • Gone to my home page
  • Entered Layout Mode
  • Expanded the module dropdown looking for "text / html" but it's not in the list.

Can someone please point out to me what I'm missing? I'm sure that it's staring me in the face.

Also - Ithink that it's time I bit the bullet and bought some documentation. Is there an online book that's "simply a must have for every DNN developmer from newbie to grandmaster"?

Thanks very much in advance,

Damien

There are just a couple of books coming out - but I am not sure about online versions.

Regarding your problem, please check in Host :: Module Definitions, whether the module is installed, otherwise extract from /install/module folder of the install package and upload using "Install Module" inside Host :: Module Definition.

Thanks Sebastian - that did the trick.

Also - my apologies for posting this request in 'skinning' - which isn't really the best spot for it. My oversight.

Kind Regards,

Damien

Damien,

I see you accepted Sebastian's answer.  Did it work for you?

I ask because I did an 4.9.0 install the other day. There was an error message in the install - I forget the details - and when I started the portal there was no Text/HTML module.  I resolved it by repeating the install.  The second stab went through cleanly.

I found no resources to suggest that such a fundamental module could be installed at all - and I didn't think of Sebatian's approach.

Best wishes,

Hi Richard,

Yes it did. Basically it appeared that the text/html package didn't install (I have no idea why... and I don't recall seeing any install errors). We didn't actually get the file out of the main package as suggested by Sebastian, instead downloading HTML_04.08.01_Source.zip from dnn.net. However he was right on the money.

Another kind of related issue that I had which you might be interested in was that, after I got text/html working and went to insert an image, The serer threw a "yellow ASP screen of death" reporting some invalid reference. After googling around, it turned out that I had to move "DotNetNuke.FckHtmlEditorProvider.dll" from the "/bin/providers" directory to the "/bin" directory. After doing this - everything was sweet.

Traps for young players!

As a newbie I am learning to really appreciate DNN - however I'm often hitting little walls like this which have been slowing our uptake of it.

Kind regards,

Damien
