Hi All,

Trying to install version 5.00.01 of DNN to 2008.

I have a new install of Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition x64
I have installed the IIS role and .Net 3.5 with all available updates
I have unzipped the install package to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\website\DNN
I have created a new virtual folder called DNN that points to this folder and converted to an application
I have started the web server and the default website

Then sent my browser to localhost/DNN

First I got errors about not having access to web.config so I gave the local "Network Service" user modify permissions to the whole folder.
Now I get an error "Could not find a part of the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DNN\Website\Config\Backup_20094161726\web_.config'"

There is no folder of that name (tho there are some with very similar names).

The install doc that came with the install package is dated 2006 and doesn't cover version 5.0 and seems to refer only to technologies found on server 2003 and earlier. I know my way round a server and very basic html. Do I need to be a developer to install and setup this software? I don't want to do anything particularly complex - I just want to get it working and throw up a basic website or two.

Is there a decent install doc somewhere? I'm assuming not so hoping to find some help on the forum. Any pointers appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, sometimes yes.  :)

The installation is the same, the permissions are the same.  How you configure IIS 7 and SQL are slightly different, but same principles.

Your best source of help is:

By the way, thanks Mitch.  For the site, and also the new book.

Jeff
