Hi Guys,

I see that there are posts for moving DNN from the developement environment to the production site here (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/1293/HOW-TO-Move-a-DotNetNuke-installation.aspx)

The problem I am having though is that I need to move a client's DNN installation from the production server to our development

I have managed to make a backup of the DB and restored that on our dev server and then backed up all the files and copied them back to my local machine.
I changed the web.config file to point to the database and the site loads on http://localhost/mysite

The problems I am having now is:

  1. The image paths are incorrect.
    1. The images paths now point to:  http://localhost/Portals/0/HomeContentImages/Wedding.jpg when they should be pointing to http://localhost/mysite/Portals/0/HomeContentImages/homeWedding.jpg
I realise that my installation is pointing to the root of the application which is now at http://localhost/ so the images will be wrong.

Is there not a document that describes in detail how one moves from PC to Server or Server to PC?

Thanks!

make sure to preserve relative path of the site towards the domain, i.e. if the production site is installed in IIS web site root, it should be installed in IIS web site root on dev machine as well. if your dev machine is running on XP pro, you may want to download XP Pro IIS Admin from www.jetstat.com/iisadmin.

On Vista and Windows 7, create a web site with a custom name and make sure, it is added as an alias for localhost in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

I wrote up a short tutorial on my blog regarding the creation of a local test site from a hosted account. It isn't exactly what you are asking for, but it might prove useful.

Creating a local copy of a DNN site

Note: I haven't updated this article for Vista/Win7 yet, and some of the IIS setup steps are quite different.
