Hi

I have downloaded all my Dnn files ands created a new database and restored my .bak file to the new database.  I have chnaged the connection strings in the web config but when I open up VWD and open the default.aspx and choose "view in browser", it tries for a while and then just forwards to my live site and loads that.

Does anyone have any ideas how I would get this to stop.  If i could actully get to the local application I could disable the live portal.  But I cant.

I susspect that perhaps I should have added the localhost portal before I made a backup of the database and downloaded all the files!

Any ideas

You need to add the local address that you are using in development to the Portal Alias list within the DNN Framework. If not then it automatically grabs the portal alias list for the portal and redirects you to your live site.

This can be done by editing the record in the table or within sql or by adding a portal alias to the local url before backing up the live database.

Right - Thanks

So what I have done is add the folowing portal alias in to my host>portals

localhost:1908/ClassLocal

And waited for my hosting company overnight to add a backup of my database in to my backups folder.  i have downloaded this and created a new database and restored this backup to it.  I have changed the web config to:

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=localhost;Database=mydatabase;uid=myuserid;pwd=mypassword;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>

But still in VWD Express if I Veiw the default.aspx in browser it forwards to the live site.  Even if I click on the link in the host>portals for my local portal alias, i.e. localhost:1908/ClassLocal (the proper address appears in the status bar, i.e. http://localhost:1908/ClassLocal), it still goes to my live site.

Is this becuase my live site is still there as the hosted domain?.  Should I delete the main live portal from this list?

Thanks
