I am running DNN 4.9.4 on XP with IIS 5.1, also installed is SQL Server Mangement 2008 Express running using ASP.net 2.0

Is it possible to update to 4.9.4 to 5.0.1 using the same setup for development purpose?

Also in attempting to make a backup copy of the database.mdf and database_log.ldf in the DNN folder\App_Data  by coping those files to another folder, I get an copy error message:
Cannot copy Database_Log: It is being used by another person or program.  Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

I am the only one using the application for testing purpose.  I close down browsing session to the site, but still get the error.  I assume this is the only way of making a copy of the database file correct?

Thoughts?

if upgrading to DNN 5, please use latest 5.1.1, there should be no issue with your environment.

you cannot copy database, as long as it is used by SQL Server. you might need to halt the web site, if using database.mdf in connection string inside your web.config file or need to detach it inside SSMS, if attached as database.

Opps, I meant 5.1.1 (Community Edition) my typo, Thanks.  Just to verify did I read some where that I must use ASP 3.5 on this upgrade?  Double checking.

Also,  Yes I am using database.mdf as part of my connection string in my web config.  BTW, is it better to attach it with SSMS 2008 Express instead?

One last question not related to this post...When I reply to a post and click on the NOTIFICATION option to receive e-mails, I never receive an e-mail that my post has been answered.  I have to manually check here.  I have checked all my settings including spam filters.  Is there something I am missing.

It is possible to take a backup when the site is "running" , but then you have to run a sql script.

Jan,

Running a SQL script, are you talking about running the SQL script within the DNN HOST menu interface?
i.e. HOST | SQL

Do you mind providing the backup SQL script?

Thanks.
