After a failed upgrade from 4.9.0 to 5.1.1 I restored it all back from backups and didn't upgrade. Did a test upgrade against my development system and all went well.

First problem I ran in to was that I didn't have the AJAX extensions installed. Okay, Installed. Life is good. DNN didn't even go through the motions of upgrading the site just came up.

I checked the verions, all looks good. Checked the event log and there were some minor issues; mostly permission issues.

Problem is with Dashboards...I'm like what's that? Clicked it and on the left side it diplays the following:

Web Server

Duplicate stuff!? How do I get rid of what's duplicated?

Thanks!

By dashboard, do you mean Control Panel and the Admin & Host dropdown menus?   There is something goofy that happens with the paths to the menu images and control panel images...  I had to go in to the Tabs table on SQL and fix the paths to some of the images - some of the paths were ~/images/image.gif  and those didn't work, others were /images/images/image.gif  and those didn't work.

Corrected them to images/image.gif and all was good... oddly, a couple I had to change to /images/image.gif for them to work.

Not sure if that is the problem you're talking about.  There are lots of posts about the symptom/resolution I just poorly described.

Under Host there's Dashboards. Duplicate items are listed. I had to go in to Manage Dashboard Controls and yep duplicate items. WTF?! I can install a dashboard but I can't uninstall it?

Anyway...

  Server DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Server.ascx
  Server DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Server.ascx
  Database DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Database.ascx
  Database DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Database.ascx
  Host DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Host.ascx
  Host DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Host.ascx
  Portals DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Portals.ascx
  Portals DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Portals.ascx
  Modules DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Modules.ascx
  Modules DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Modules.ascx
  Skins DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Skins.ascx
  Skins DesktopModules/Admin/Dashboard/Modules/Skins.ascx

See, I had to disable items to keep them from showing up in Dashboard.

maybe there happened an issue caused by version conflicts of core Dashboard module extensions (not related to Repository Dashboard module, please don't mix up). There is extensions management included in the module, I suggest to remove inactive X versions.
