I am stuck.

I am using simple file shareing so I suppose the first question is (which should be added to the manual) is can I use it for a DNN install ? or must I change to advanced.

On trying out advanced I tried to find the user mentioned on page 13 of the install manual.

It says.

"In Windows 2000/IIS5 the account to use is the {Server}\ASPNET User Account,
􀂗 in Windows 2003/IIS6 the account is the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
User Account.   "

I am using XP and I think my IIS is version 5.1 ..
There is no user of either type on my system that I can see.

Manual could use a brushup in this area guys.

Personaly I think it should be made really really easy to do a step by step walkthrough install using the most common operating system on the planet ....

I would guess that a large majority of the users of this software would be using XP and SQL express just to try it out. I really need a  bullet proof walkthrough for a "hello world" DNN install here !

Have you looked at the vidoes that Shaun Walker did, which are posted on the DNN website?  I thought there was a video where he shows how to create the ASP.NET user, etc.

All versions of XP use the ASPNET user account. I have seen some versions of Windows Server 2003 use IISWPG instead of NETWORK SERVICE, tho.
