is DOTNETNUKE installed in just the "host" folder?

when you create a portal for a client company does DOTNETNUKE do all the setting up of the IIS etc?

Am I correct in understanding that the HOST user does not need to login to the server to do any IIS work?

if I upgrade to a new version of DOTNETNUKE, does the upgrade process automatically check all portals and install the new version in the folders for each portal?  OR do I need to install into EACH portal folder?
