Hi

I just a critical upgrade for DNN flashing in my site, so i thought of upgrading my DNN version. Does anyone have a complete step by step procedure for doing the same.

I do have some 3rd party modules also installed and working fine on my site.

Any help would be appreciated

You should try it in a dev environment first to see if there are any issues. If not, follow the steps below.

  1. Backup your database
  2. Backup your code
  3. download the 5.1.4 upgrade package
  4. unzip it to your web directory
  5. Launch your site
  6. Upgrade process will kick off
  7. Follow the prompts to install upgrade
  8. Access your portal
  9. See if any issues with your 3rd party modules. If there are, contact the 3rd party module creator to see if there is an update
  10. If there any issues, restore your database and old website

Marcus is right, thhough you might want to prevent site acccess during file copy, e.g. by stopping the web site or placing a flie app_offline.htm (512 byte min size) in root folder.

Hi Sebastian and Marcus,

Just a quick question.

I did all the steps but the database in the original DNN directory gets overwritten with the new one from the ZIP File. So should i not take the previous DNN database and put it in the APP_Data Folder.
