I have the following scenario,

Windows server 2003

Dot.net 3.5 SP1

powershell 1.0

ASP.NET 2.0

IIS 6.0

SQL 2008 server (Express Version) with management studio tools

after trying an install of DotNetNuke_Community_05.01.04_Install.zip on this machine with sql already installed and comming to error after error = no successfull install.

I completely rebuilt a new machine from scratch to hopefully make this happen.

again this is the fresh install of all of these on this new machine with a 2.4GHz Intel Pentium Processor 4CPU and 1gig of memory:

Windows server 2003

Dot.net 3.5 SP1

powershell 1.0

ASP.NET 2.0

IIS 6.0

SQL 2008 server (Express Version) with management studio tools

I am still getting a barage of the same errors I got on the first machine the other difference is that the other machine was part of a domain which this new machine is not and I am logged in as administrator on it during the install of dotnetnuke.

Here is what I found as part of my research about these errors:

My first stop was what looked to be very easy to use forums on the dotnetnuke.com website but when it came to actual use of the dotnetnuke.com website forums it seamed pretty diffcult  to know how to post a question and even more difficult to get search capability on the forum to perform a search without returning an error!

These should seriously be addressed as things to fix, re-engineer, re-design, re-do or simply do away with them as they greatly add to the frustrations of someone already frustrated with an error encountered with dotnetnuke (Community).

The only info i got from the forums about my particular errors are that everyone who installes dotnetnuke on winXP works GREAT and is installed in about 3.5 minutes.

I have yet to come across someone who has my configuration and has successfully installed dotnetnuke (community)

that leads me to this question;

Is my server machine congfiguration adequate to accept an installation of dotnetnuke (community)?

If it is then please provide documentation on step by step instructions for my exact configuration on how to install dotnetnuke (community)

please do not send me a document that will work with 6 different configurations.... I am not concerned with that.

I appreciate your time and I hope you could appreciate my agervation as I have been at this for over 2 weeks now.

Someone please HELP I am in an install nightmare!

I'm not sure what powershell is, but I did have DNN installed on windows server 2003 (We've sine upgraded but it worked fine on 2003).  I followed the steps in Mitchel Sellers blog, http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/214/installing-dotnetnuke-483-locally-non-vista.aspx for my install.  His isn't the same config, but you can extrapolate from what he has in there.

It would help if you put the errors you are getting here.

We did numerous installations of DNN on Windows Server 2003 and 2008 with IIS 6/7, with and without .Net 3.5. Powershell is not needed, but won't hurt. SQL 2008 express is fine.

Make sure, to grant full file system permissions to the ASP.Net account ("Network Service" by default). I suggest to use "custom install", the wizard will provide you with test options.

If you encounter further errors, please post error details.
