So right about now I am ready to give up. I have been through all the tutorials and they all seem to start with creating a directory. I am sure it is easy, but how do I do this? and how do I make sure I have everything on my computer that is needed? This is what I know I have:

Windows Vista

SQL 2008 express

I don't know which DNN to download (install version, or what?)

Can someone please help from the very beginning?

I suggest to download MS Web Plattform Installer from www.microsoft.com/web.

Install it locallly and run it to select the web app you'd like to install. select "DotNetNuke" and it will take care of prerequisites and all installation steps.
