After way too many unsucessful upgrade attempts from 4.9 to 5.anything- I have installed a fresh DNN 5.1.4 on a new domain on the same server that is running 4.9

That being done- is there a procedure to move portals from one install to another. Do the version numbers matter? Is there a way to convert the "main" module (typically portal 0) to a regular portal on another install somewhere?

I have never had ANY luck trying to move between a testing server and production server. I feel like it just isn't made to move well. Is there a good resource I've missed out on that might help me figure out how to do that?

you can move files and database - or create a template from a DNN portal to be used for a new portal in a different installation - of the same version.

definately, the recommended path is upgrading your 4.9 installation to 5.1.4
