I purchased the Artisteer software at work yesterday, and was very pleased with how quickly I was able to make up skins for my DNN site.  However, the skins wouldn't work right, because I realized my version of DNN is very outdated.  My version is 04.03.03, and someone else set up this DNN environment for me over three years ago, and it hasn't been upgraded since.  I need to upgrade from version 04.03.03 and I have no idea how to go about it.  It is not installed locally; it is all on a remote server/host.  What is the easiest way for me go to about this without breaking what's already working?  The Artisteer software works with either version 4.9 or 5.0, so either would make me happy.  Any ideas anyone?

Melinda,

Since your version is rather old ... you will need to upgrade in steps.  Check out Will Stohl blog and Mitchel Sellers Blog (search: upgrade) for help ... they should get you going.

Paul.

Hi - I've also got a couple of posts on how to do this on my blogs.

If you are on a remote server /host - does that mean you have remote access to the server? Or does it mean you have shared hosting.

Remote Access is by far the quickest and most reliable way in my opinion and here are some details on how I have upgraded some of my sites -

One was 4.5 > 5

The other was a bit older -and has some more images -

The key is to get a backup prior to starting.

You can use the artisteer product on other versions but it is fiddly and there are some benefits in moving forward to later versions of dnn.

If you have no experience what soever in upgrading, then it could take you a while. It's doable and possible, but knowing what you need to do is of course better.

Sometimes I have suggested to some people to export their site content and put onto a new build of dnn as for some, I think it's also an easier approach.

Hope this gets you on your way too.

Nina
