Currently:

  • Running XP SP2
  • VWD Express installed
  • IIs installed
  • logged in as Administrator
  • changed release.config to web.config
  • modified web.config file per instructions
  • database installed

I am trying to get DotNetNuke starter kit up and running. I have completed all the steps. However, when I click ctrl-F5 to install the site, my web browser launches with the following error: http 403 (forbidden)   You are not authorized to view this page. I seems like it's a permission issue?. How do I correct this?

Hello:

This is a common issue and can easily be fixed.  First, you need to fine the physical folder using Windows Explorer. Once you do this, in Windows Explorer using the menu go to Tools > Folder Options...> View.  At the bottom of the list, uncheck the "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" and click "OK".  Right click your website folder and select Properties > Security and click the "Add" button.  Type in "aspnet" and click "OK" to add the ASP.NET machine account. Under the Security Tab with the ASP.NET machine account selected click "Full Control" and click "Yes" if prompted to apply to sub-folders.

Best of luck!

John
