Hi, I'm very new to dotnetnuke. I have never worked with it before. I need to setup a local copy of a dotnetnuke website that I need to update. I need to set it up in a virtual machine running Windows server 2008 r2 with IIS 7.5.

I have SQL Server 2008 installed and have access to the website database, FTP.

The website is in a directory on the FTP and is not in the root. So I would just copy that directory from the FTP to wwwroot in inetpub, rather than placing all the files in the wwwroot directory.

I have been following this guide, but it did not work http://michaelkizer.com/Blog/tabid/11...

For any tech help, always post exactly what didn't work.

In your case, install the appropriate DNN version on your system using the install version of DNN.  While having similar modules installed is helpful, designing DNN doesn't require an identical setup since you're only going to be uploading skins and containers to your production site.  Updates of content are done on the production site itself, from within DNN.
