I have had a DNN installation for several years for my University laboratory. Recently I had some computer problems and somehow corrupted the site so that I cannot enter anymore. I tried downloading the newest upgrade community installation. Running it however still did not solve the problem. I really need to  get the data from that site - e.g. on Forums, etc. Can someone help me accomplish this? I would greatly appreciate it.

The only way that I would know, which wouldn't be very convenient, would be to set up a new site and then install all of the same modules. After that, you would have to manually move all of the data from the old DB to the new one. After you get this site up, I would recommend setting up some type of backup.

OK. I set up a new clean installation. And  now for a really dumb question: How do I logon as admin or host for the first time. I tried using dnnadmin but no good.

And then, after I enter the new portal, how can I move a module over from the old installation. I no longer have the zip file, just the expanded folder.

Thanks for your help.

You should have set up the password and admin when you set up the clean install. Moving the folder and files won't work because they create additional tables/sps that they need in the DB. You will have to make sure all of that is there if you want the module to work. It would be really beneficial to have the install module and then just import the data. You may be kind of screwed unless you really know what you are doing. Sorry for the bad news :(.

I did not see anyplace during the clean install to enter admin and pwd. I guess I will delete it and try again.

Aha - just realized I was using the same dotnetnuke sql database.
