I have been trying for several days to get DNN installed.  I have downloaded the most recent version from the web.  I am having problems getting it to connect to an existing database.  It is SQL2005 with mixed mode authentication.  I am trying to connect with windows authentication.  SQL Server 2005 is installed locally on my laptop.  I can access the database fine through SQL  The message is 18456 sql login failed.

The web.config was modified to use SQL2005 as follows:

</configSections>
  <connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express -->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008-->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(local);Database=PTI_Skills;uid=DELLL-F4M8J71\Network Service;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=PTI_Skills;uid=DELLL-F4M8J71\Network Service;"/>

Is that UID a valid user account in SQL 2005?  In most cases you wouldn't use the Network Service account as a SQL account, so you would need to specifically grant it access in SQL.  If your SQL server already has a SA account, try that in your connection string to test that it really is permissioin related.
