Can someone explain me in simple words, what compatibility is there among SQL Server 2005 Express, Developer and full version? By compatibility I mean the possibility of reading/writing (or exporting/importing) the database there and back again. And what about between SQL Server 2000 and 2005?

Hi,

I have SQL Express on my dev notebook, SQL 2005 enterprise on my test server, and also had SQL 2000 on it in the past, i have not run into any issues with the different verions of SQL to date.

i create/manage/edit etc my tables/procs/etc.. on my notebook using SQL express and export them into SQL 2005 enterprise.

in regards to SQL 2000/2005, from what i remember you should have no problems going back and forth

Thanks for the promising answer. However:

Is it really possible e.g. to work with 2005 Express locally and then move the database smoothly to 2000 on the provider's web server? And vice versa?

I was said that in Express, a database = 1 file, but in Standard/Enterprise versions, this isn't true... So how can I replace one with the other? Are there some tools necessary to export/import databases among the mentioned platforms?
