I'm trying to install dotnetnuke for days now without succeeding. First I tried with the Web Platform Installer which allready gave me a headache while installing SQLServer. After that tried to install DNN without the WPI. The last message I got is:

Line 85: ComponentFactory.InstallComponents(New ProviderInstaller("sitemap", GetType(DotNetNuke.Services.Sitemap.SitemapProvider)))
Line 87: Dim provider As DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.PermissionProvider = DotNetNuke.ComponentModel.ComponentFactory.GetComponent(Of DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.PermissionProvider)()
Line 88: If provider Is Nothing Then
Line 89: ComponentFactory.RegisterComponentInstance(Of DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.PermissionProvider)(New DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.PermissionProvider())
Why is installing Apache-MySql-PHP with Drupal on a Mac so much easier? Unfortunately my employer asked me to use asp.net on Windows. Would appreciate some advice.

Have you got IIS, SQL Server installed properly?  If so installing DNN should be simple.  Use the WPI again.  If that doiesnt work then just :
  • unzip the install package (make sure you Unblock the file first),
  • set the permissions so that NETWORK Service has Full Control,
  • create an IIS site that points to where you unzipped yu package to,
  • run the site and complete the wizard.

I tried to install the software a dozen times using WPI., on Windows 7 ultimate and on XP. Everything is ok except sqlserver which gives an error message: intallation failed. so I installed it manually.
However, if I run the site I get an error while connecting to sqlserver: login failed or no explanation at all. Using Windows or mixed authentication doesn't make any difference. I tried to change the script in web.config without any luck.

Sounds to me like your SQL Server is the issue not DNN. Try making a simple aspx page and connecting to SQL Server, then once you have that sorted out installing DNN should be simple.
