I've edited a portion of the Wiki, located here: Installing DotNetNuke using SQL Server 2005/2008 as your database server. Not sure when my edit will be approved so I thought I'd post my edit here as well.

Basically, under step #17 (selecting the database) - If you have only one instance of SQL running on your server, and you intend on using the SQL instance on your machine, you can enter a '.' for the database location. Otherwise, if you have more than one instance of SQL running on your localhost (SQL2005, SQL2008Express, SQL2008) and you are going to use one of the local instances enter a period followed by a slash and the instance name. For example '.\SQL2008'

I had someone call and ask for help today, after discovering that they had more than one instance of SQL running on the machine I made the suggestion of entering the .\{InstanceName} - it got them going.

I hope this help others out as well!

Cheers!

Thanks Herb, as an alternative you can also use (local) i.e. (local)\sql2008 .

@Cathal - that's true, I guess I mentioned the period because the user was watching one of the free webinar videos and it mentioned using the period.

This was a user from the University I attend who's going to be joining the WI DNN User Group, I had pointed her towards the videos.

Have you added the '(local)' option to the wiki as well?

Thanks!

done - thanks for adding the wiki also, everything helps, no matter if it's a simple typo or a userful hint (though we welcome brand-new pages also :) )
