Hi

I'm trying to move a DNN site from a provider that closed down to Surftown (Denmark).

I have all files uploaded and the database imported. I have tried to modify some files to provide the correct information for the database, but I'm having problem getting past this error:

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetPortalSettings(Int32 TabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +101
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +77
   DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +5088
   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +68
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +75

I really would appreciate is anyone could help me.
I AM a novice at DNN and I have just ended up with this task as noone else wanted too :-)

- Are you using the same domain address?
- Did you properly adopt BOTH connection strings in web.config to meet new database location?
- Did you make sure, full file system permissions have been granted to the account used by ASP.Net (which OS version are you running?)
- Did you make sure, IIS web site has been configured properly and you are using same .Net version?

Cheers from Germany,

 Hi Sebastian.

Thank you for you answer.
Yes, both are on the same domain address. But the database naming has changed.
I changed all connections strings I could find in web.config as I did not notice that some was commented out in the first place :-)
I'm told be the hosting company that the user running the application has change rights.
I have no control over the ISS itself, but I know that others use the host for DNN. The site is running a version of .net 2

JW,
which DNN version? DNN 5.2 and above require .Net 3.5 SP1 to be installed. has default.aspx been configured as default document and is DNN installed in the root of your web site?

Yes, default.aspx is default document and the site is installed at the root.

I am not aware of the version. AFAIK it is about 2 years old. Can I checke the version somewhere in the files or in the database?
