Okay, so I created a very nice DNN website (ver. 5.1.4) on my local machine.  When I initially loaded DNN I created a separate SQL Express 2008 database rather than have the DNN set up process do it.  I modified the web.config for the external database, developed the site and everything is fine.

Now I am attempting to FTP the site to my hosting provider.  I cannot restore the .bak file, that I created on my local machine, onto my hosting providers' SQL server.  The problem is that, for security reasons, my hosting provider (Go Daddy) does not permit the restore of .bak files that were created outside of their machines.

It seems my options are limited.  The way I see it I could try to find another hosting provider that permits me to restore my .bak file or I could start from scratch and use the native database in DNN which, I think, should FTP fine with the rest of the site files.

However I am hoping to find a way to keep the site I developed and perhaps modify the database somehow, or reintegrate it into the site so that it will FTP up to Go Daddy.

I'm not too hopeful here, any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Best,
Kevin

While GoDaddy will not permit you to restore a database backup that was created elsewhere, they do support the Database Publishing Wizard (aka Tasks-->Generate Scripts in SQL Server Management Studio). It is a time-consuming to use but will work as long as you do not have any database integrity or stored procedure object reference errors in your database that will require the entire process to be restarted after correcting each error. There are some references to this in GoDaddy's knowledgebase but the following article includes a good overview: http://www.webucateus.com/cms/Default....

Note that when providing the user credentials to access the web service GoDaddy uses to receive the published scripts you must use those of the primary FTP user account (not an FTP user account that you have created) and the targeted database to which you are publishing must have been set up to allow remote access at the time it was created.

Almost enough of a hassle to make you want to go elsewhere for hosting.
