I want to install DotNetNuke community 05.06.01 on my web hosting account but the instructions I have found are very confusing, most refer to installing on local machine rather than a remote web server.  Those that do refer to installing on a web server state that I should rename the file release.config to web.config and make various changes, however I cannot find a file named release.config in the unzipped installation files,  can anyone tell me where this file is ?

Also some installation instructions say that I must ftp the files into a sub directory on my web server and others say  that it must be in the root directory else other asp.net apps may not work, does anyone know which is the best place to copy the files into ?

Many Thanks

Phil Gregiry

I managed to resolve both issues now.  The web.config file was there but not visible in windows due to the long file extension, to resolve and edit this I renamed the file "web.txt" using ws-ftp, then made the necessary edits and uploaded to web server and then renamed back to "web.config".

The issue of whether to copy the DotNet Installation ( unzipped ) files into the root or a sub-folder of my hosting account was resolved by trial and error.  For my hosting setup the files needed to be copied into the root of the web server  ( wwwroot ).

You can actually do it either way.  We run our site in a "dnn" subfolder, with an index.html file in the root that points to the dnn folder.   There are other ways to do this as well.
