Has anyone else tried to install DNN at the root of their GoDaddy hosting account in the last 30 days?  GoDaddy has changed their security model and will NOT allow you to change the permissions on the root of your site.  Since DNN wants us to set Read and Write to the root of the site and GoDaddy has blocked this, we cannot run DNN on the root of a GoDaddy site anymore.  There are a couple of really nice walkthroughs on the net for making DNN work at the root of a GoDaddy site, but they all require you to set Read and Write on the root.  I have contacted GoDaddy about this and ended up cancelling my account when they told me that this was an intentional change and that they would not even manually set the permissions for me.  I explained to them how this might negatively impact their DNN hosting, but they didn't seem to be concerned.

It doesn't make sense to me that one of the most popular CMS tools won't work properly on one of the most popular hosting companies.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Unfortunately that sounds about like Godaddy hosting to me.

I avoid it like the plague, and try to recommend everyone does.

That being said, I spend a LOT of money with godaddy every year, just not on hosting :D

Like Chris said, I also avoid GoDaddy  for hosting. One of my worst experiences was migrating a DNN site from WH4L to GoDaddy at the insistance of a client who had already set up the GoDaddy account - never again would I agree to doing that! I was not surprised to learn that the client had migrated away from GoDaddy just a couple of months later - this time fortunately with the assistance of a hosting provider (DNN4Less) which specializes in DNN hosting.

I did see an interesting post in the forums a couple of days ago on how to install DNN in a sub-folder of the root and have it fully accessible from the root url. It is a rather involved approach but for those who have no other choice might be a solution:

I have too...this is a bad idea and bad move for GD because I am a reseller and I'd hate to have to move ALL of my accounts to someone else.

I had just setup this account to move all of my clients to GoDaddy. I like their reseller interface and some of their other features. Not to mention their support really is quick to answer and quick to fix (most of the time). My existing host doesn't have after 5:00 Windows support and you have to leave messages or submit tickets. If I am in a hurry, I want to talk to a human.

Thanks all for the replies. It does look like I may need to move on. I wonder if the DNN developers could come up with a way to work around this...
