Hi,

I need to move a DNN site to new server space. Sould the following steps be all that's required?

  1. Archive the entire original DNN folder from the current server to my local system.
  2. Backup the original DNN db then archive to my local system.
  3. Upload all of the archived DNN files / folders to the new server space.
  4. Restore the original DNN db "over" the newly created empty db.
  5. Revise the db references / paths in the web.config to the new db file name and location.
  6. Add the DNN installation folder to the IIS app pool on the server.

Anything else to look for?

Thanks!

BTW - After posting, it occurred to me that this thread might be better placed in the DNN Installation forum. If a moderator can do so, please move it if needed. Much thanks.

Jim

That's about it with the following additions:

1a. If there will be a change in the site URL, it will be necessary to add the new URL as an additional portal alias either by way of the Host-->Portals interface in the existing site or by a manual addition directly to the PortalAlias table in the database.

3a. Make sure that the root installation folder and all child folders on the new server have their filesystem permissions set to grant full control (including modify) to the ASP.Net worker process (IIS Identity account) under which the assigned App Pool is running.

7. Update domain registration nameserver information to point to the new hosting provider's name servers.
