I have installed DotNetNuke on my lap top. When try to run it I get the following error:

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Source Error:

Line 98: </system.webServer> Line 99: <system.web> Line 100: <machineKey validationKey="F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902" decryptionKey="F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902F8D923AC" decryption="3DES" validation="SHA1"/> Line 101: <!-- HttpModules for Common Functionality --> Line 102: <httpModules>

 I have installed a virtual directory in inet, but that does not seem to cure the problem. What do I try next

Charles

If you are using IIS7.5 (maybe even IIS7) try making it an "Application" instead of just a virtual directory.

Sometimes, if you have a redundant web.config file under your site or any module's folder, it shows this error too.

installing DotNetNuke as an application, in INET seems to have solved the problem.
