Hello,

I really a newby to DotNetNuke (though it looks like a dream come true) and have a question on where to develop.  Should I develop locall on on the hosted site?  I seem to remember seeing a file, folder, or functionality called "deploy" which makes me think I can develop on my local machine and publish to my hosting server.  Is that correct, and if so is it painless?  Would there need to be some configuration on the remote host?

Thank you for your help and God Bless,

Mark A. Sam

The 'deploy' feature I think you are talking about is only available in the professional version of DNN not the community(free) version.
I think there is a web video of a presentation by Will Strohl of DNNCorp on the feature. Have a search on the DNN website for it.
As to where to develop it depens on a lot of things and I don't believe there is a single way. Especially when you are talking content. With custom module development or skin development I would lean to develop locally then (package and) install on the production site. With small sites or where $$ are tight and content I would lean towards 'develop' in production, using the built in security roles features to hide the content until its ready.

Antony,

Thank you for your response.  So in other words, I can develope locally then package the site and move it to my remote server?  Do you know if I will need to conigure the remote server or will DNN know how to do that?

Thanks again,

Mark
