I would think this is very basic stuff but for the life of me I cannot get it working. I can get to the install page and the site comes up, slowly I might add, but the style is not loading or the images. I believe it is a permissions issue but as fat as I can tell all users have the correct permissions.

I am on 2008r2 and I have configured my application pool "dnn" to use "ApplicationPoolIdentity" and my site is configured to use that app_pool. I am using pass-throught authentication, yet it tells me it can't verify the path to c:\dnn which is where I have unzipped DNN to. What user am I missing as far as having the correct permissions on that folder? currently I have IIS_USERS, Application Pool, Anonymous Login, IUSER all with Full Control. I have restarted and everything multiple times.

 What am I missing?

IIS_Users and/or IUser should only have read access if the database schema (databaseOwner) 'dbo' is used, otherwise it needed additinal execution access.

Then the Application Pool User must have write, change, read, access access.

If you are using pass-throught I think it used the the client user as the application pool user (not sure at time). I would prffer to create a spezial user for the application pool user and add them to the database. Or use the network service and add them to the database.

I think your database isn't created well, and you have delete the database and create it new. Also start the install of the DNN instance from beginning.

Thanks Mathias,

I unchecked pass-through and added it by user. I now have authorization when I test the connection. but the page still loads as if it is missing the styling.  I tried loading http://localhost/portals/_default/default.css but it comes up blank as well and I know the file is there.

How do you know my database is not setup correctly? I haven't even got that far, lol... I haven't left the beginning of the install yet as the page is not rendering correctly.

IIS user should never access the database. this anonymous uses need to be able to access files for download (html, js, css, images and documents), but access to the database is needed only for the database user, specified in your connection string. if you are using integratedSecurity, you need to create sql server account and grant database permission to the windows user that was specified in your IIS application pool.

I know if the persmission not set well before you run the install, some settings to the database tables could not set well. So make sure you have set the file and folder permissions well for you DNN root folder and inherit it to all subfolders and it's files. Also be sure you have set both connection strings well in the web.config file First after you have double check this make the install.

If all of the instance worked correct without the Design, make sutre you have correct inherit the settings to all subfolders and files.
