I want to develop my site local on my machine before putting it on to my public / paid  host site.

When I install 6.02 and I type the URL into my site, then it directs me to the site where I have reserved that URL -- not to my local host

In the past, I have used GoDaddy.com to reserve and manage my URLs.   I develop the sites on my local machine then deploy them to a hosting service.  And change the location with Go Daddy.

What do I need for my local machine to look locally to build this site?

I'm not a professional web site developer.

if you want to use your local web server (Windows IIS) for development, you need to add the address as localhost alias in your /system32/drivers/etc/hosts file. Simply use a text editor like famous notepad.exe to edit the file (run in admin mode for Vista/Win7 security), uncomment the localhost line, add a tab and your desired name in the same line as "localhost" alias. Save and make sure, your website is bound to the same name.
